I have lived in Knoxville most of my life. No matter where I have lived, I have always been active in my community – whether it be with the schools my children were in, our church, scouts, etc. That was what I was taught by my parents. You give back to the community. I now want to extend that involvement by serving on County Commission.

I know everyone is getting tired of hearing “January 31”. However, that was a very important day in our community. That was when we saw our commission at its lowest. Because of that day, I decided to put myself in the forefront and run for District 4 Seat A.

These are my reasons:

  • Honest and open government
I believe that our government can and should be run openly and honestly. There is no reason for back room deals or closed door meetings. To steal the words from an illustrious attorney, “secrecy and speed are tools for a political machine. Notice, public openness and opportunity to debate are tools of democracy. They were voted in by the citizens of Knox County to be their voice. They have neglected to listen. I promise to listen to YOU the CITZENS!

  • More stringent ethics policy
I also believe that we need a more stringent ethics policy to include the restriction of nepotism. No one should be voting on any resolution or amendment, etc that has to do with any member of their family. Nor should county employees be allowed to sit on county commission.

  • Sustainable neighborhood development
We need to work towards safer neighborhoods. Protecting our citizens and their property is most important.

  • School funding and better schools
I am for better education and school funding. There is nothing more important that our children’s education and the ones who provide it. We must look closely at the budget and mare sure that the money is going for the right programs.

  • Senior citizen initiatives
Senior citizen initiatives are important to ensure that we as a community give back to those members of our community who have given to us and who continually give to us in so many ways.

Knox County and its citizens are important to me. It is a wonderful town to live and work. Please help me be your Commissioner. If you would like me to speak at your club or association please contact me. Please remember to vote August 7, 2008.
